SSP I + II + III F.A.Q.

Why doesn't X synth/fx have X,Y & Z features? Well it's like this: I am a strong believer that pushing up against limits encourages greater creativity than having very open, unhindered progress. Just look at a Kraftwerk record and see what they achieved with so little. If there is something that you do want just ask but don't expect me to make each synth do everything or not have quirks (there are plenty of other synths like that already).

Why not make 1 monster synth that does all of these things at once? One day I might and I'll call it Janus 42. Oh and see the above Q&A.

Sound from Janus disappears? Check the "Stereo" settings as Inverted stereo is actaully caused by phase reversal so summing to mono (eg using Space or BandWerks as an insert effect) will make the sound disappear altogether. Either set stereo to normal or move the "wide" slider up a fraction.

Castor II won't open Castor I sounds? Sadly this is so as newer versions won't read sound data from older versions. I suggest that you keep Castor I around till he is no longer needed.

What Host do you recommend? Well I don't get paid to make up your mind for you but I use Energy XT, one of my friends uses Sonar and another Cubase. I also know people who use Fruity Loops, Traction and Buzz... To get the most from the modular options SSP I + II + III offer then a host that allows VSTs greater operational freedom are recommended - you can always use somthing like Energy XT as a sub-host.

Wavesphere/Layer Drum/WaveLine etc can't find it's samples? Put the samples in the Wavesphere folder in your Plug in folder. See the manual.

Wavesphere isn't very good for Pianos, Orchestral sounds and General Midi and it won't beat slice? Nope

Chorus/Delay unit crackles. Can you fix this? The cause is because a delay line is trying to be modulated to before/after itself! So the fix is to set the initial delay time to at least half of the modulation depth. Odd as it may sound, at present I don't want to fix this because the fixes I have tried don't seem to sound the same as the 'honest' method.

Why doesn't Cosmo 201 have 8-stage envelopes like a real CZ? When it did they sucked so badly even I didn't want to use them.

How do I get Seq 28-116 or Mod-u-Law to work? Both Seq 28-116 and Mod-u-Law require a host that allows MIDI VSTi to be inserted between the track and the MIDI Out/VSTi Synth. These units transform MIDI in some way so have to sit in the MIDI chain instead of the audio chain. Some hosts do not support this (or it doesn't work - Live 6?) and so you will require something like Chainer or a modular environment like Energy XT to do the routing.

Why aren't all these things FREE? Ok how about you going to work, working really hard and then having your boss ignore you at the end of the week. Ok $7.50 sounds good then :-)

Why is the collection so cheap? I'm not going to complain if you give me more money but I bet you won't ;-)

Some of these units use a lot of CPU? Well yes they can do. that is an inevitable result of the environment I use to build these units. You can always Freeze or Record the synths etc and then turn them off, freeing up the CPU for more sonic assault.

Virgo 12 takes a long time to open first time? That is simply because the Soundfont for the default bank is rather large as I requested it to be high quality. Having more RAM should ease this.
