The Method

I composed this track "Ripples" in Energy XT 2.5 for a forthcoming album and then exported the MIDI to Reason and re-voiced.

Track A

Ripples (excerpt)

SynthStudio Packs I & III + Energy XT 2.5

Instruments:

Arp - Janus 3.5
Piano - WaveScore + SampleoTron
String - Tallis
Chimes - Castor II
Lead - CSM-02 + SD-82
Noise - Castor II

Effects:

Delay - Time
Reverb - Space

Track B

Ripples (excerpt)

elektro 3-57 + Reason 4.0

Instruments:

Arp - Combi: Mute Fill Arp
Piano - Combi: Vangelis Layers
String - Combi: Simple Pad
Chimes - Subtractor: Whistler
Lead - Thor: Moog Filleter
Noise - Thor: Waves

Effects:

Delay - Combi: Stereo Delay Plus
Reverb - RV7000

As you can see both sound good and there is no major difference at the sound quality level. The SynthStudio Pack version (A) may sound a bit warmer and more old style analog and the Reason version (B) more polished but that is more from sound programming than anything to do with the instruments or softwares used.
